Weekend of Science at NEMO

Have you ever been to the science museum of Amsterdam? Perhaps not, but then this weekend will be your chance to go. With its iconic rooftop, NEMO will open its doors for free of charge on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 October during The Weekend of Science!

Even if you already have been before it will be worth a visit. Lots of activities during the day and their two other location will open as well, their recently opened NEMO Studio and their storage depot in Amsterdam North, which is usually not open for the public.

More information can be found here.

Fun fact: our G-STAR boat will be used as a free shuttle service between the museum and their studio. Go check it out! The museum and the studio will be opened from 10:00 until 17:30 and their depot from 11:00 until 17:00.

What to do first?

First: explore the NEMO Science Museum!

Most people in Amsterdam know where they can find this building, it has a very large rooftop and inside is probably one of the most exciting museums of the city. For young and old there's enough to see and to do. The Weekend of Science theme of this year is energy and lots of activities on Saturday and Sunday will focus on this theme. Build a change reaction for example, take a nap in a tipi tent or carry out chemical experiments in the lab.

Location: Oosterdok 2, Amsterdam
Open from 10.00 to 17.30

Then: visit the NEMO studio!

On the other side of the water you can find the NEMO studio, just recently opened for the public and acts as an exhibition hall. Their first exhibition is called 'tomorrow's food' and this weekend will be the last chance it see it in full glory. Find out what kind of food we will be eating in the future, try laboratorium-made ice cream and see if you like the taste of insects.

Location: Kattenburgerstraat 5, Amsterdam (use our free shuttle service from the museum!)
Open from 10.00 to 17.30

At last: travel back in time at NEMO depot!

At NEMO's depot more than 17.000 unique objects are stored. Objects from their old collections and exhibitions. NEMO Depot is usually not open for the public, so this will be your chance to see a lot of interesting things that once were being displayed in the museum. For example, there will be demonstrations of the Van de Graaff generator and the Tesla Coil. Curious? Go check it out!

Location: Strekkerweg 41, Amsterdam-Noord
Open from 11.00 to 17.00
