The best events in Amsterdam during January

New year, new month, and new events, too! Holiday season is over and some of you are still digesting some of the food you ate with your family or friends. If you're ready to go out and about yet, then we have a list for you with some of the best events in Amsterdam for January.

1) National Tulip Day
18 January / Dam Square

Every year in January the start of the new Tulip season is celebrated on Dam Square. All the tulip farmers invite people over to come see what the tulips this year look like. And you can pick your own bouquet of tulips too, for free! There will be more than 200.000 tulips this year, but be quick, they will go fast ;) The tulip garden is opened from 1pm until 5pm.

2) Chinese New Year
25 January / Nieuwmarkt

Chinese New Year will be celebrated on the 25 of January this year. In Amsterdam there will be festivities on the Zeedijk and Nieuwmarkt to celebrate the most important day for the Chinese people. There will be a temple on Nieuwmarkt where the main event will be held, and there will be a lot of chinese food too! So if you did not have had enough of the New Years yet, you will have another chance to celebrate!

3) Amsterdam Night of The Hotel
18 and 19 January

During the Night of the Hotel around the 40 top hotels will open their doors for cheap! But not only that, they will have special events and parties to attend as well. There's rooms for 55,-, 75,- or 125,- euro per night, so for every budget and rooms that are usually far more expensive. Don't think for too long and book a room in your favourite hotel room, otherwise it might be sold out. More information about the participating hotels and parties on the website of the organisation

4) The Great Surinam Exhibition
Until February 2 / De Nieuwe Kerk

This exhibition in the Nieuwe Kerk already started a while ago, but nevertheless still worthwhile to go and see if you haven't! The exhibition is all about suriname, one of the most diverse countries in South-America. Archaeological finds, old clothing, documents, historical photos, contemporary art, film, music and so much more! Tickets are 18,00 and can be bought in advance. 5) Hannekes Live
12, 19 and 26 January / Hannekes Boom

Every Sunday there's live music at Hannekes Boom, close to Central Station. Perfect way to end a maybe long and busy week! Get a drink, sit down and enjoy tunes from a different band each week. The band will be playing from 3:30 until 5:30pm, but of course you can come before or stay after.
