4 x ice skating in Amsterdam this winter

December is around the corner and that means the start of the new season: winter time is coming! You're probably already busy with planning all of your holiday activities with your family and friends this month, but make sure you'll leave some time for the favorite winter activity of the Dutch: ice skating!

There's plenty of ice rinks in the city and even a few  popup ones fully in winter theme. That means gluhwein to embrace the ice and hoping to leave the rink unharmed. Below we selected some of the coolest rinks in the city. Good luck!

1. Museumplein
Until 2 February 2020

Probably one of the 'coolest' spots to go ice skating in the city. Right in front of the famous Rijksmuseum you will find Ice* Amsterdam. This popup rink is fully in winter theme with christmas trees, winter stalls, lights everywhere and even a replica of the Skinny Bridge in Amsterdam. After showing your moves on the ice there's a big hall where you can get your well deserved drink and food too.

2. Rembrandtplein
15 November until 5 January 2020

Also a very cool location to have your popup ice rink at. Rembrandtplein, the other big square in the city, will also have a rink this winter. Same as the one on Museumplein, fully in winter theme. Difference? Not much, it depends on where you are in the city I guess. Both should be nice!

3. Jaap Eden Baan
12 October until 22 march 2020

Jaap Eden Baan is de biggest and the most known ice rink in the city and well found by locals and tourists as well. It was the third ice rink in the world that had a 400-meter track and opened its doors in 1961. They welcomed their one millionth visitor just after their first year and it remained a very popular location to go ice skating during the winter ever since. Definitely worth checking out when in town! You can find this rink in the east of the city.

4. Amsterdam RAI
21 december until 5 january

This year again you will find "Het Amsterdamse Winterparadijs" in Amsterdam RAI. It's basically a winter paradise for young and old. Ice skating, snow slides, apres-ski, ferris feel, cinema, oktoberfest, theatre and so much more. Actually too much to write about. You will have to check it out yourself! It will definitely be a unique winter experience, so make sure you'll bring your friends or family. Or both ;)
